The Role 

We are looking for an organised, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide technical support, instruction and supervision to students in the safe and correct use of the relevant equipment and materials associated with Live Event Production. 

The successful candidate will display a knowledge of and interest in Live Event Production and a technical skills base which may include sound, rigging, lighting, networking and digital performance technologies. A familiarity with the processes of temporary electrical systems, health and safety and equipment maintenance would also be an advantage. The role will assist the Technical Director with the day-to-day operation of the Backstage Academy Studios and the safe presentation of all student productions, external hires and projects at Backstage Academy. Duties will include (but are not limited to) assisting academic staff during practical sessions, maintenance of equipment, maintaining and supervising the safe and efficient operation of Backstage Academy studios and specialist teaching spaces, assisting the training of students and staff on how to operate equipment, and being responsible for health and safety of the building and its equipment in the absence of the Technical Director. The successful candidate will have a flexible approach to different working styles and a willingness to work antisocial hours over demanding periods. 

The ideal candidate may have a Degree in Technical Theatre or Live Events and have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent, including Maths and English, and should also have excellent visual and verbal communication skills. Alternatively, a candidate without a Degree classification but with extensive technical experience in Technical Theatre or Live Events will also be considered. The successful candidate would be required to successfully complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
