David Hughes joins as Work Placement Manager

Backstage Academy has recruited David Hughes as Work Placement Manager

Backstage Academy has recruited David Hughes as Work Placement Manager to develop opportunities for our students and build upon our links with the live events production industry.

David will team up with Sara Gleadhall, our Business Development Manager, in handling requests for student crew and in creating new work placements for students on our popular FdA Live Events Production course. This will be further expanded with a new BA Top Up Live Events Production, starting this September, and a new BA in Visual Production.

Originally a theatre technician, David began his teaching career in backstage vocational training as it was being pioneered in the UK, at The Grange Arts Centre in Oldham. Since achieving his CertEd teaching qualification, he has combined roles of entertainment technology course leader and tutor with production design and management. Besides live music and events, his production know-how encompasses drama, dance, and musical theatre. Experienced in developing students’ careers in the field of entertainment, he is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Project Management to complement his work at the Academy.

Said Hughes: “Many of my students have used their training and work placements to progress into leading roles within our industry. I’m really proud to be able to further develop this with Backstage Academy. The team here is excellent and the way that they and the courses match the skills requirements of students and industry is spot on.”
