The MA in Live Events Management, delivered full-time over one year, is aimed at developing highly skilled Event Managers who will be efficient and effective from day one of their career. Our standard pathway will enable those from a non-technical background to gain a comprehensive conceptual knowledge and a practical understanding of the sector.

Our technical pathway is aimed at those with a prerequisite knowledge of the creative and technical aspects of the Live Events Industry. This route through the programme of study will give students a bespoke module designed to facilitate growth and technical competence in one of the following areas. 1) Projection mapping and live performance, 2) Production management and implementation of lighting design or 3) Production management and implementation of sound reinforcement.

  • Why study this course?

    Being in the heart of the live event industry at Production Park, and part of the fastest growing sector in the UK economy, gives Backstage Academy the legitimacy to develop a distinctly different Masters degree. The MA in Live Events Management, delivered over one year, has two points of entry.  Applicants who can demonstrate at interview a prerequisite knowledge of the creative and technical aspects of the Live Events Industry can select one of three optional modules in 1) Projection mapping and live performance, 2) Production management and implementation of lighting design and  3) Production management and implementation of sound reinforcement.  This route through the programme of study gives the student a bespoke module, designed to facilitate the growth and technical competence for the next generation of Live Event Managers.  The Masters programme will also allow non-technical applicants to gain access to the course and receive both comprehensive conceptual knowledge and practical understanding of the sector.

  • Career Opportunities

    Graduates can access jobs that will test their newly acquired skills and knowledge.   Starting salary dependent on experience can range between £24, 000 – £45,000 plus benefits. The events management industry has opportunities across a wide range of sectors.  Jobs now exist within the corporate sector as well as the live events industry, where opportunities for event managers can be found in law firms, conference venues, museums / galleries, live music venues, pharmaceutical companies, higher education, local government, sports stadiums, exhibition venues, and major hotel chains.  A masters degree will open up the world of events management.   • Assessment

    Masters level of study requires a distinct set of approaches; this course has a mix of ‘taught’ and ‘research’ through work-based and practical-related learning, in the field, workshops or studio.  Students must accumulate 180 credits over a full-time mode of study. The course requires a critical level of thinking and students must be able to work independently and autonomously.   Teaching, learning and assessment on the course is designed to develop and test a range of skills through different forms of assessment. They range from assignments that require teamwork and group activity, essay writing, reports and practical assessments through to assignments that are enhanced and supported by technology.  Students will undertake multiple assessments which relate closely to course outcomes.

      

  • Admissions Criteria

    An applicant should have: an honours degree or level 6 equivalent qualifications. Backstage Academy welcomes applicants from EU countries who have a good honours degree or equivalent.

  • Fees

    Tuition Fees for this course are currently £6,500 per year for UK/EU students commencing study in 2018.
