Live Events & Sports

As Wimbledon fever begins to take over the UK for the next two weeks, it got us thinking about what goes on at big sporting events around the world and more importantly, who is needed to work at them…

People are often quick to associate live events with the music and theatre industries, however as worldwide sporting events are getting bigger and better every year, the need for fully trained individuals to work at them is also on the rise. You only need to think back to this year’s Super Bowl to consider the number of staff they needed to pull that off!

The Olympics, World Cup, Six Nations and Commonwealth Games are just some examples of events that have a need for stage management and visual production at some point. Spectators go to these stadiums and arenas and expect more than just a match – a half-time performance, lighting and soundtrack is all part of the experience and that’s where YOU come in! There are some fantastic opportunities out there to use your skills and experience and be part of something amazing.

If you dream of one day working at events like this, our BA (Hons) Live Stage Management Degree covers major sports event ceremonies and the diverse roles you might want to consider after university. Find out more about the course and how to apply here:

Meanwhile, serve up some strawberries and cream and Pimms!
