It’s calm and not overcrowded but still has plenty going on, and some of the biggest cities in Yorkshire can be reached in under an hour. Here’s all you need to know about living and loving life in Wakefield…

There’s a live music scene and it’s pretty decent
The live music scene in Wakefield is flourishing and there are regular events that cater for all music tastes at venues such as The Hop, The Orangery and Warehouse23. If you’re prepared to go a little further, the new Leeds Arena and Leeds O2 Academy have the biggest bands and artists performing there on the regular with Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, Prince and Miley Cyrus all playing in recent months.

You can easily experience the buzz of bigger cities
Wakefield is located between Leeds (15 mins away), York (40 mins away) and Sheffield (50 mins away) meaning it’s easy to visit a big bustling city if you find you’re feeling a bit too tranquil! Just jump on a train or bus to experience what these awesome cities have to offer.

Celebrate the town’s rich culture and history
Wakefield is home to The Hepworth Gallery, Yorkshire’s landmark gallery and the largest purpose- built exhibition space outside of London. Meanwhile Wakefield Museum celebrates the city’s heritage and the remains of Sandal Castle can also be explored. Yorkshire Sculpture Park is one of the leading open air art galleries in the world so definitely not one to be missed!

There are loads of ways to get active
If you feel at home on the water, Pugneys Country Park offers kayaking, sailing and windsurfing, or if you’re a serious adrenaline junkie head to Xscape in Castleford with a real snow ski slope, indoor surfing, climbing and much more. There’s also a multi-million pound leisure centre for your more ordinary activities and plenty of parks to explore on foot or bicycle!

Shop ‘til you drop
A recent multi-million pound regeneration project has seen the welcome addition of Trinity Walk, a complex offering a wide range of shops and restaurants. Explore independent boutiques, visit the weekly markets and browse high street stores to find exactly what you’re looking for!
