Backstage Academy’s degree courses focus on #CareersLessOrdinary in the new 2016 Prospectus

Backstage Academy release their 2016 Prospectus this week. Designed by Leeds agency Outsmart, it features five degree courses focused on providing the next generation of talent for the growing live events and entertainment sectors.

In just six years, Backstage Academy has become the UK’s leading specialist live events education establishment; focusing on production, management, performance and technology. Housed at the new Production Park facility in South Kirkby, Backstage Academy is working towards the vision of being able to establish the University of Wakefield by 2020 – which would be a huge economic boost for the city and the region.

‘We’re not like any other Higher Education establishment in the country.’ states Backstage Academy’s Managing Director Paul Barton. ‘In an industry crying out for skilled technicians, creative visionaries, directors and managers, Backstage Academy deliver a range of cutting-edge degrees at the forefront on a rapidly growing sector, offering huge earning potential for students.’

Backstage Academy is one of the UK’s leading destinations for skills training in the events sector, running short courses, bespoke training and honours degrees. The flagship courses include BA Honours degrees in Live Events Production, Live Visual Production, Live Stage Management, Music Recording and Production and Popular Music Performance and Production. The teaching staff is made up of world-leading lecturers who are recognised and respected figures in their sectors.

‘With the events degrees especially, one of our biggest problems is getting our students to finish the course.’ comments Paul, ‘Demand is such that all our students get offered freelance work in the summer breaks, at rates of up to £400 a day. They end up working on big name tours abroad and gain valuable experience.’

Backstage Academy have appointed marketing agency Outsmart on a long-term contract to handle their marketing strategy, creative proposition and campaign execution to increase student intake by 50% year on year.

The appointment is off the back of the successful ‘#CareersLessOrdinary’ campaign which recruited students for entry in 2015. Recently, in addition to designing and printing the 2016 Prospectus, Outsmart have also revamped the Backstage Academy website in order to drive recruitment.
