Your Vote Counts!

While you’re studying for your degree in stage management, visual production or live events, it’s fairly unlikely that registering to vote is on your to-do list. But as students, the decisions you make now will have a huge impact on the way you live, how much things cost and how you’re looked after in the future when you’re working your socks off in the live events industry. You really are the future generation!

This year’s general election is less than a month away – 7th May to be precise and the deadline to register is even sooner, 20th April! According to the BBC, the number of university students who’ve registered to vote this year has dropped considerably and it’s because there’s a new electoral registration system which means individuals must now register themselves, whereas before they didn’t.

The government are so keen for students to vote they’ve invested £4.2m to encourage under-represented groups to get them on the register. And they estimate that there are 12 seats which could be decided by the student population alone, so if you’ve ever doubted that your vote makes a difference, it really does, especially this time around!

To register, head to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and fill in a short form which takes about 5 minutes. It’s worth it when you think about how tuitions fees, petrol prices, food prices, the NHS and more could be affected depending on who’s running the country. So do it now and have your say!
