About Backstage

The Backstage Academy was set up to do things differently - to deliver what our industry so urgently needs - high quality, relevant and practical training in different backstage skills. Key to this will be ensuring that our students are ready for work when they leave us.

Through our partnership with Litestructures (GB) Ltd we are uniquely placed to keep track with industry demands, giving our students a 'head start' when they come to start (or develop) their careers. Based at the Litestructures Live rehearsal studios in Wakefield (where many of the world's biggest names in entertainment have come to rehearse in this arena sized space) we are working on providing many exciting facilities, the first of which we are working towards will be an authorised Apple Academy delivering pro app courses from October.

Rigging Course

Two exciting new rigging courses are starting this August. Eric Porter, experienced independent rigger, trainer, assessor and committee member for the PLASA National Rigging Certificate will be delivering these courses which will include truss types and uses, hanging from chain hoists and bars and slinging trusses and flying frames.

The Equipment Suspension Course is a one-day course tailored for any people hanging lighting, audio, video or scenic equipment from rigging which has been provided by others (including Theatre Flying Systems); while the Rigging Course runs for two days and delivers skills, knowledge, understanding and techniques contributing towards the Plasa National Rigging certificate (NRC) Level 2, and into Level 3.
